Privacy policy
Last updated 17 October 2026
FeedFox (“we”) is an RSS reader for Android. This policy explains what the app does with your data. The short version: there's no FeedFox account, no ads and no tracking. Your feeds and reading history stay on your phone. When you use an AI feature, the article you asked about is sent to be summarized or translated, and nothing is kept afterwards.
- No sign-up, no FeedFox account, no advertising or analytics SDKs.
- Your feeds, articles, read and starred status and settings are stored on your phone.
- AI features send the article text to FeedFox AI, only when you use them. We don't store it.
- We never sell your data or use it for advertising.
What stays on your phone
Your feeds, folders, downloaded articles, read and starred status, Discover follows and settings are stored in the app's private storage on your device. We can't see them. Images and web pages are cached on your phone to save data.
If you sign in to a sync service, its address, username and password or token are stored in the app's private storage so FeedFox can keep syncing. API keys for your own AI providers and your ChatGPT sign-in are stored encrypted with a key kept in Android's secure keystore, and are never included in backups or device transfers.
FeedFox turns off Android's cloud backup. If you use Android's phone-to-phone transfer, the system may copy app data other than your AI keys to the new phone.
What leaves your phone, and why
Feeds and websites
FeedFox downloads the feeds you follow, and full articles and images when you open them, directly from the websites that publish them. Like any browser, this shows those sites your IP address. Articles can contain embedded videos and posts (for example from YouTube, Vimeo or Bluesky), which load from those services.
To show a site's icon, FeedFox may ask Google's or DuckDuckGo's icon service for it, which shares the site's domain name (not what you read).
Sync services
If you use Feedbin, FreshRSS, Miniflux or another Google Reader API service, FeedFox talks straight to that service with the details you entered. Your feeds and reading status are stored there under that service's privacy policy. We never receive them.
FeedFox AI (summaries, translation, key words, daily digest)
When you open a summary, translate an article, ask FeedFox to organize your feeds, or turn on the AI daily digest, the app sends what that feature needs to FeedFox AI:
| Feature | What is sent |
|---|---|
| Summaries | The article title and text, the summary style, your custom instructions if you wrote any, and the language to write in |
| Translation | The article or summary text and the language to translate into |
| Daily digest | The feed name, title and a short excerpt of your top unread articles, the date and your app language |
| Organize feeds | Your folder names and, for each feed, its title, website name and recent headlines |
| Blocked articles | When a site blocks FeedFox from loading an article, its web address, so FeedFox AI can load it |
FeedFox AI uses trusted AI service providers to write the result. It doesn't save the article, the result or anything that identifies you, and no account or device ID is sent. Your IP address is used only for a moment to limit how many requests can be made per minute; we don't log or keep it.
You can turn AI summaries off in Settings → Intelligent Features, and nothing is sent unless you use one of these features.
Your own AI provider
If you add your own AI provider (for example OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, OpenRouter, Mistral, a ChatGPT plan, or Ollama or LM Studio on your computer), the same content goes straight from your phone to that provider, under its privacy policy and your agreement with it. If you've set up more than one, FeedFox tries them in turn, with FeedFox AI last unless you turn backups off. Signing in with ChatGPT uses OpenAI's sign-in page; FeedFox stores the sign-in, encrypted, on your phone, and signing out cancels it with OpenAI.
Read aloud
The FeedFox voice runs on your phone, and the text doesn't leave it. The voice files are downloaded once from GitHub and the speech engine from Google Play. For languages that voice doesn't cover, FeedFox uses your phone's own text-to-speech engine, which follows its maker's privacy policy.
Crash reports
The Google Play version includes Firebase Crashlytics, but it is turned off and doesn't collect anything. If you choose to share a crash log with us, it contains the app's log, your phone model and Android version, and goes only to whoever you send it to.
Google Play
Installs, updates, ratings and the speech module are handled by Google Play under Google's privacy policy.
Permissions
- Internet: to download feeds and articles, sync, and use AI features.
- Notifications (optional, asked for): the daily digest and download progress. The daily notification is off until you turn it on.
- Foreground service, media playback and wake lock: to keep podcasts and read aloud playing with the screen off, and to finish voice downloads.
FeedFox doesn't ask for your location, contacts, camera, microphone or photos.
Deleting your data
There's no FeedFox account, so we hold nothing about you to delete. On your phone:
- Remove Account (or Log Out for a sync service) in Settings deletes that account's feeds, articles and settings.
- Removing an AI provider in Settings deletes its key; removing ChatGPT signs you out with OpenAI.
- Clearing the app's storage in Android settings, or uninstalling FeedFox, deletes everything.
Data kept by a sync service or your own AI provider is deleted through that service.
Children
FeedFox isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or UK GDPR), you have rights to access, correct or delete your personal data and to object to processing. Because we don't keep personal data on our servers, there's usually nothing for us to provide, but you can always write to us and we'll help.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update it here and change the date at the top. If a change matters, we'll also mention it in the app's release notes.
